KENT, Ohio – Kent State junior outfielder Maria Cegledy has been named a Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team selection for the second straight season, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Cegledy had another consistent year at the dish for the Flashes and earned her second consecutive All-MAC Second Team nod. The Pataskala, Ohio native is hitting .318 on the year with six doubles, two triples, a homer and 16 RBIs.
She is third on the team with a .373 on-base percentage. She has also been one of the league's best centerfielders and is the only Golden Flash this year to start all 48 games and has not committed an error. She slugged her only homer of the year against Miami (April 13) when Kent State was down to its final strike to force extra innings.
Off the field, the sophomore carries a perfect 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in Exercise Science. Cegledy will advance to the All-America ballot, with first and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
The Golden Flashes continue play in the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday, May 10 and will resume a halted game against Ball State at 10:30 a.m.
