On May 22, the "Sean Lewis" made its official debut as a sandwich at Twisted Meltz in downtown Kent. The Golden Flashes head football coach became the first person to have one of the eatery's signature Meltz named in his honor, without attending Kent State.
"It's a huge honor," Lewis said.ย "This was one of the first places we ate at when I first came to Kent.ย A ย couple of months ago, they reached out and asked if I'd be interested in doing this.ย I was really humbled by it. ย I love eating here."
The "Sean Lewis" includes two Angus beef patties, American cheese, jalapeño peppers, thick cut applewood bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo on a toasted potato bun.
"The double cheeseburger with a little bit of heat and baconโฆit's a good combination and suits me well," Lewis said.
Longtime Kent State golf coach and kicker on the 1972 MAC football championship team, Herb Page also recently had a sandwich named after him.
Other recent additions include three-time All-Mid-American Conference safety Luke Wollet, who worked at Twisted Meltz as a student.ย The list of Kent State football players to have sandwiches named for them includesย Lou Holtz, Nick Saban, Jack Lambert, Gary Pinkel, Julian Edelman, Josh Cribbs, Josh Kline, James Harrison and Dri Archer.
"I'm grateful for the way the city of Kent has embraced our #FlashFAST family," Lewis added.ย "Now there's some expectations with being on this (menu) board and we need to win some ballgames."
