Prior to the start of final exams, the Kent State volleyball program gathered at the M.A.C. Center this past weekend to celebrate its senior class and successes throughout the 2018-19 academic year.
Head coach Don Gromala provided a recap of the season, beginning with a retreat that included team building activities and a whitewater rafting adventure at the start of camp in August. Freshman Erin Gardner (defensive) and redshirt freshman Alex Haffner (setter) each earned a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honor during the season. Gardner and Melissa Kolurbasi were selected to the MAC All-Freshman Team, marking just the second time in program history that two freshmen have been honored by the league.
Kent State continued to thrive in the classroom and had several student-athletes recognized for their academic successes. Senior Amy Kober was selected as a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and joined on the Academic All-MAC Team by seniors Sam Jones and Lexi Mantas and sophomores Kaeleigh Stang and Natalie Tagala.
As a team, the Flashes posted a 3.459 GPA during the Fall 2018 semester with four student-athletes making the President's List (4.0) and nine named to the Dean's List (3.4+).
