KENT, Ohio – Kent State senior center Nate Warnock was named to the 2019 Rimington Trophy Watch List, presented annually to the most outstanding center in Division I College Football, the Rimington Trophy Committee announced Friday.
Warnock makes his first appearance on the watch list and is the only returning center in the Mid-American Conference that started 12 games at the position a season ago. The LaPorte, Indiana native moved from guard to the heart of the Golden Flashes' offensive line prior to last season and anchored a resurgent ground game that ranked fifth in the MAC (171.7 ypg). Kent State recorded its most rushing yards (2,060) since 2013 and most rushing touchdowns (20) since 2012.
Since its inception, the 18-year old award has raised over $4.2 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
