
21-Point Comeback Secures Season Sweep over Rockets

TOLEDO, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team rallied from a 21-point deficit, beating the Toledo Rockets, 83-70 for the season sweep on Tuesday night at Savage Arena.
Kent State improved to 15-6 overall and 5-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
Senior Troy Simons scored a career-high 25 points on 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-8 from 3-point range while grabbing five rebounds.
Senior Antonio Williams added 21 points with four assists and four steals, while junior Danny Pippen recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Flashes were down by 21 points ( with 6:48 left to play in the opening half when a steal from Williams led to a fast break layup that sparked the Flashes' comeback. Kent State ended the first half with a 16-0 run that included four triples to send the Flashes into the break only down three, 35-32.
Senior Philip Whittington's go-ahead layup put Kent State up 48-46 with 12:16 left to play and sparked a 14-3 run capped by Antonio Williams' layup for a 58-49 lead and the Golden Flashes held on.
Kent State's defense came away with 10 steals scoring 24 points off Toledo's 14 turnovers.
The Flashes are back in action on Friday for the first installment of the across town rivalry match against the Zips. The Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge showdown is on Friday, Jan. 31 at the M.A.C. Center with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff. The game will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
