Flashes Top Point Park in Season-Opener

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team (1-0) used balanced scoring in its 90-41 win over Point Park on Wednesday night at the M.A.C. Center.
Kent State had 12 different players score and four finish in double-figures. Senior Mike Nuga led the way with 17 points, junior Gabe O'Neal had a career-high 15 points, and senior Danny Pippen and redshirt freshman Jeremiah Hernandez finished with 13.
KSU shot 46.8 percent (37-of-79) from the field, while Point Park shot 28.3 percent. The Flashes had 40 bench points and dominated in the paint, 62-12. Kent State won the battle of the boards, 55-28, with senior Justyn Hamilton grabbing a career and game-high 14 boards.
The Flashes scored the first six points of the contest and didn't look back. With a 9-0 run and 7-0 run in the first half, Kent State shot 41 percent and had seven players score. The defense limited the Pioneers to just seven field goals and 31.8 percent shooting.
Kent State led by as many as 39 early into the second half. The Flashes had an 11-0 fueled by Hernandez and O'Neal that put Kent State ahead, 61-22 with 12:43 left to play. KSU kept attacking offensively and closed the game with a 90-41 victory.
The Flashes return to action as they take on No. 15 Virginia on Friday, Dec. 4 on the road. Friday's game will air on the ACC Network and tip off at 6 p.m.
