Tennant Wins Shot Put Title Saturday at MAC Indoor Championships

AKRON, Ohio - Grace Tennant won the shot put to lead a solid day of performances in field events by the Kent State women's track and field team as competition concluded at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday. The Golden Flashes posted 32.5 points across three field events and finished in ninth place (33.5).
Tennant's victory continues Kent State's recent shot put dominance, as the Flashes have won the event in five of the past eight years. Her winning throw of 51'-11.25" came on her second attempt of the day. Gabby Bailey was the leader through the first attempt with a mark of 50'-0-.75" and finished third.
Kent State also had a strong showing in the high jump, with freshman Lillie Franks tying her personal-best height of 5'-7" to finish second. Alyssa Matheny finished in a tie for third place, clearing 5'-5".
Ally Thompson and Christy Nell tied for seventh in the pole vault with a top height of 12'-0.5". Sami Ice needed an extra attempt to clear the same height and tied for ninth.
Following the meet, Lillie Franks was Named MAC Freshman Field Performer of the Year.
