FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. โ No. 22/21 Arkansas launched three home runs in a five-inning 8-0 win over Kent State in the final game of the Wooo Pig Classic for both teams on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (7-8) threatened in the top of the first inning when Maria Cegledy broke for home on a wild pitch and was called out on an extremely close play at the plate to end the frame.
The host Razorbacks took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning on a homer by Braxton Burnside. They added two more home runs and scored six in the fourth.
Determined not to be shut out for the first time this season, Kent State recorded three singles in the top of the fifth but was unable to score and extend the game.
The Flashes had four players combine for five hits but left six runners on base. Junior Kaitlyn Miller led the offense with two hits.
Redshirt sophomore Andrea Scali (3-6) totaled seven strikeouts and did not issue any walks while allowing eight hits.
Kent State will head to Durham, North Carolina next weekend to play four games in the Duke Invitational on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7.
