KENT, Ohio- VonCameron Davis, a senior from Columbus Walnut Ridge who signed a letter of intent to play for the Kent State men's basketball team last November, has been named this year's All-Ohio Mr. Basketball announced Wednesday by the OHSAA.
" I'm Really happy for Von, his high school coach, Coach Jefferson, everyone at Walnut Ridge, and his entire family," said head coach Rob Senderoff. "What a great accomplishment and we are really excited for him to join us next season."
Davis is the first Mr. Basketball to commit to Kent State since the award started in 1988.
The 6-foot-5 forward was named the state's Division I Player of the Year on March 17 after averaging 26.9 points and 11 rebounds while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor. He surpassed 2,000 points in February and closed his career with 2,201 points to rank all-time among central Ohio Players, while leading his team to a district championship.
Davis is the fourth City League player to win Mr. Basketball and made first-team All-City Four times. The only other player to do that was two-time Mr. Basketball winner Jared Sullinger (2009, 2010).
