
Sborlini’s storybook season shut down

Olivia Sborlini was penning one of those inspirational tales where patience and perseverance pay off when her book was abruptly slammed shut.
After spending the first three years of her Kent State softball career performing any and all supplemental roles tossed her way by head coach Eric Oakley, Sborlini finally earned the opportunity to start at third base in 2020. The senior from Upper Merion High School in Pa. delivered a three-run homer in the Golden Flashes' victory over Fordham on March 6, a two-run shot in a triumph over Kansas City on Feb. 14, and was fresh off a 1-for-2 effort against national power Duke on March 7.
Five days later, Kent State's '20 season was over — two months before the scheduled finale.
