Ferguson's Blast Not Enough vs Flames

LYNCHBURG, VA- Liberty spoiled a solid outing from Collin Romel, adding late insurance runs and defeating the Flashes 7-2 to even the series at a game apiece.
Romel went five and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three unearned runs while striking out seven, getting the tough-luck loss. The lefty ran into trouble in the fifth, after an error extended the inning, the Flames capitalized with back-to-back doubles to plate two runs. Liberty would add a third unearned run in the sixth, ending Romel's day in favor of Tyler Drabick. Liberty would extend the lead in the seventh on a double and pad the lead in the eighth, stringing together four hits to score three times.
The Flashes offense was limited to the efforts of Patrick Ferguson. The senior homered in the second inning and double and later scored in the sixth. Justin Kirby also had a two-hit game for Kent State, but the Flashes could never find the timely hit on Saturday, going 0-12 with runners in scoring position and 1-9 with two outs.
The rubber match of the series is set for Sunday with Ryan Lane getting the scheduled start. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
