Flashes Post Big Score in Loss to Broncos

KALAMAZOO, MICH. – The Kent State gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season in a loss to Western Michigan on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the loss, the Golden Flashes posted another score above 195.000 which was crucial for their postseason hopes. The Flashes look to jump up from 40th in the country into the top-36.
The Golden Flashes tied their highest floor score of the season (49.350). Freshman Karlie Franz recorded a career-high 9.900 and finished in second place. All five counting scores for the Flashes were above 9.850 including junior Abby Fletcher and senior Jade Brown who tied for fourth place with a 9.875.
Fletcher's success on floor translated to beam where she tied a season-high 9.850 and took home the individual beam title.
Freshman Rachel DeCavitch tied for first place on bars, tying her career-high score of 9.875. She also won the all-around competition with a score of 39.175. Senior Sammi Nero tied a career-high with a 9.775 to finish in sixth place.
Freshman Olivia Amodei tied for second place on vault, tying a career-high 9.825 on the event. Fellow freshmen DeCavitch and Franz tied for fourth place with a 9.800.

Kent State return home to the M.A.C. Center to compete against Michigan State and Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 13. The Golden Flashes will honor five seniors: Jade Brown, Sarah McCarty, Sammi Nero, Gabby Williams and Emily Kelly. Competition is set to begin at 7 p.m.
After senior night, the Flashes will head back to Kalamazoo, Mich., on Saturday, March 21 for Mid-American Conference Championships. Kent State will have two more chances to boost its NQS and qualify for an NCAA Regional.
