KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball program has announced the signing of Justyn Hamilton to its 2020 recruiting class. He will sit out the 2020-21 season due to NCAA transfer regulations and be eligible for the 2021-22 season.
"We are very excited to add someone of Justyn's ability to our program," said head coach Rob Senderoff. "I feel strongly that he will be an impact player when he competes in 21-22. He has three years of Division I experience already and is a perfect fit for our system and our style of play. Justyn has the size, skill, athleticism, and mind-set to be a force in our league. He will have a year to work in the weight room, work with our coaching staff and practice with our team so that he will be ready to have a great senior year with us. He truly is a great fit for our program and I can't wait for him to get here."
A 6-foot-10 forward, Hamilton comes to Kent State from Temple University, where he spent three seasons in an Owl uniform. Hamilton appeared in 23 games and made 16 starts in 2019-20 while averaging 3.3 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting. In his sophomore season (2018-19) he averaged 4.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Hamilton scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting in a win against No. 25 UCF.
Hamilton attended Independence High School where he was a two-time Southwestern 4A All-Conference pick. He competed in the 2017 Carolinas All-Star Classic and was invited to participate in the USA Basketball Junior National Team mini-camp in the summer of 2016. Hamilton was named a three-star high school player by 247 Sports and was ranked the sixth-best player in North Carolina during his senior year of high school.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Hamilton joins Malique Jacobs, TK Smith, James Jordan, Gabriel O'Neal, and VonCameron Davis to make up Kent State's 2020-21 signing class.
