Rooney, Flashes Named Scholar All-Americans

KENT, OHIO- Tim Rooney has added another All-America honor to his season accolades, adding the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America honors for the second-straight year.
Kent State also added the Scholar All-America team award. The NWCA honors the top-30 teams in Division-I with Scholar All-America status. The Golden Flashes ranked 18th in the country this past season with a team grade-point average of 3.232.
An exercise science major, Rooney will graduate with a 3.83 grade-point average. Earlier this season, he earned Academic All-MAC status for the fourth time. The Columbus, Ohio native excelled on the mat as well this season, capturing the conference title at 133 pounds. Rooney finished the season 26-9 and was seeded 13th at the NCAA Championships before they were canceled. The Scholar All-America status goes along with the NWCA Honorable Mention All-America honor he earned after the 2019-2020 season.
For individuals to earn Scholar All-American honors, they must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, been an NCAA qualifier and won 60 percent of his total schedule or have been an NCAA All-American with at least a 3.0 GPA.
