Fletcher, Gilbert Sweep MAC Weekly Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Golden Flashes swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards with senior Abby Fletcher earning MAC Gymnast of the Week and freshman Kyndall Gilbert being named MAC Specialist of the Week.
Fletcher kicked off her final season as a Golden Flash with an impressive performance on three events, including a dazzling 9.875 floor routine to pick up the individual event title. She wasn't done there as she posted a 9.750 on beam to finish tied for second place, and a 9.750 on vault to tie for fourth place. Fletcher helped the Flashes post an impressive 194.675 total score in the season opener, the highest score by any MAC team this season. Her individual score of 9.875 ranks first in the MAC and tied for 25th in the country.
Gilbert started her collegiate career off in remarkable fashion, winning the individual title on vault with a 9.850. Her vault score is the highest in the MAC through one week and tied for 23rd in the country. The freshman wasn't done there as she posted a 9.725 on floor and finished in 6th place.
Kent State picked up a dominant victory over MAC-rival Bowling Green on Sunday, 194.675-190.550. The Flashes will look to build off the opening meet success as they travel to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Jan. 24.
