KENT, Ohio- Four flashes scored in double-figures as the Kent State men's basketball team (9-4, 6-3 MAC) secured the season sweep over Central Michigan with an 83-76 victory on Saturday at the M.A.C. Center.
Senior Danny Pippen led the way with his fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Justyn Hamilton also notched a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior Malique Jacobs added 13 points and six boards, while junior James Jordan rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Despite the Chippewas jumping out to a 7-point lead with 9:48 left to play in the first half, the Flashes offense answered back and used multiple scoring runs to take back the lead. CMU had gone over three minutes without a field goal as KSU used a 10-1 run to take a 42-32 lead with 3:26 left in the half and would head into the break with a 40-42 lead. Jordan shined in the opening half scoring 10 points off the bench on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.
The Chippewas opened the second half with a 9-2 run that gave CMU a brief 57-56 lead before a second-chance layup from Malique Jacobs would put the Flashes back ahead with 13 left to play. KSU extended its lead to 10, 67-57 over the next three minutes as the Flashes went on an 11-0 run that featured three-pointers from Jacobs and Pippen, both off feeds from Santiago. The Chippewas got within six points of the Flashes, but KSU would secure the 83-76 victory.
Kent State finished the game shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Flashes dominated on the boards out-rebounding the Chippewas, 43-33, and grabbing 14 offensive rebounds to Central Michigan's seven.
