
Ferri Earns Top Spot in MAC Pre-Season Poll

KENT, OHIO- Jake Ferri was selected as the pre-season Mid-American Conference favorite at 125 pounds in the Conference's annual pre-season poll.
Ferri is the Golden Flashes' top-ranked wrestler in the pre-season poll and for good reason. Ferri is coming off a 14-4 season that saw him place third at the Mid-American Conference championships and earned a major decision victory at the NCAA Championships. He was also picked as the top wrestler at 125 pounds by InterMat Wrestling in their pre-season poll.
The Billerica, Massachusetts native is one of three returning wrestlers for the Golden Flashes that punched their ticket to the 2021 NCAA Championships. Kody Komara went 3-2 at the Mid-American Conference championships and earned a spot in the NCAA Championships, he is ranked sixth at 149 heading into this season. Colin McCracken will make the transition down to 184 after going 10-9 last season at 197 pounds and earning a trip to the NCAA Championships as a wild card. McCracken is also ranked sixth in the pre-season poll.
Other ranked wrestlers for the Golden Flashes include Brendon Fenton who went 9-3 last season and is ranked eighth in the poll as the projected starter at 133 pounds. Projected heavyweight starter Jacob Cover is ranked ninth in the MAC poll. The Hilliard, Ohio native went 4-9 last year. Tyler Bates, the projected starter at 197 pounds is ranked ninth. The redshirt sophomore picked up dual wins against West Virginia, SIU-E and Ohio last season.
Overall, the Golden Flashes are 10th in the pre-season poll. Kent State will start the 2021-22 season with their annual Blue and Gold Wrestle-Off to be held on Saturday, October 30th at the Basketball and Volleyball Development Center inside the MACC Annex.
