
Same Places, New Faces: Wrestling 2021 Newcomers

KENT, OHIO- The Kent State wrestling team under the direction of head coach Jim Andrassy will have a number of new faces on the team for the 2021-22 wrestling season.
"I'm very excited for this group to come in," Coach Andrassy said. "We have a very good mix of transfers, local guys that are returning or staying home and a talented recruiting class outside of Ohio. We couldn't do a lot of on-campus recruiting or visits last year, so I am especially proud of this class. It is a strong group of wrestlers that sets us up for both this season and years to come."
AJ BAXTER | BROOKLYN, MI | Clinton High School (157)
Baxter finished as three-time place winner at states, finishing 5th once and was a runner-up twice. He won 181 matches during his time wrestling for Clinton, helping them to two team state titles. Won the County All-Star wrestling tournament as a senior at 140 pounds.
ASHTON BREEN-FR | Mokena, Illinois | Mount Carmel High School (184/197)
Breen had a successful career at 160 pounds for Mount Carmel, winning the Illinois Class 3A sectional tournament as a senior. Breen carried that momentum into an individual 5th place finish at state and helped Mount Carmel to a state runner-up finish.
AIDAN FARIA-FR | Cumberland, R.I. | Cumberland (165)
Faria was a four-time state placer, finishing fourth and second before capturing state titles as a junior and senior. He also was a two-time New England state placer finishing as high as second as a junior. During his senior season he was ranked as high as 15th by national wrestling rankings and was a NHSCA All-American (3rd) to conclude his senior season. His high school record was 152-17.
AARON FERGUSON | Steubenville, Ohio | Steubenville (157)
Ferguson comes to Kent State after a successful career as a member of the Big Red. Ferguson finished his career at 98-5 and started his senior season at 33-0 with championships at the sectional and district tournaments. He finished his career as a two-time state qualifier.
MICHAEL FERREE | Youngstown, Ohio | Austintown Fitch (Campbell) (174)
Ferree wrestled two seasons for the Campbell Camels out of the SoCon. Totaled a 12-2 record over those two seasons. Went 7-2 as a freshman including capturing the Freshman/Sophomore division championship at the Southeast Open. Went 5-0 as a sophomore including three major decisions and a victory by fall. He compiled a 98-15 high school record including placing at the state tournament twice. Went 53-7 as a senior and was named first-team all-conference during his senior season.
TYLER JOHNSON | Danbury, CT | Danbury High School (George Mason) (149)
Helped Danbury high school to a state title in each of his four seasons. Was a conference and league champ as a senior and finished as a state runner-up. Finished sixth at the New England wrestling tournament and qualified for state and New Englands as a junior. Started wrestling career at George Mason before transferring to Kent State.
MIKEY LEWARCHICK | Seville, Ohio | Wadsworth High School (141)
Wrapped up a stellar high school career with 103 wins. Lewarchick was a three-time state qualifier finishing fourth place at the state tournament as a senior. He helped Wadsworth finish in the top three as a team.
NAJEE LOCKETT | Shaker Heights, Ohio | Shaker Heights High School (Tompkins Cortland CC) (165)
Lockett is a transfer from Tompkins Cortland Community College in New York and returns to northeast Ohio. He was a standout wrestler for Shaker Heights and a two-time captain. He placed 5th as a sophomore and 2nd as a junior. Lockett won his third sectional championship during his senior season and was the top-ranked wrestler at 170 pounds prior to the cancelled OHSAA tournament in 2020. His senior year, rose to 15th in the national rankings.
MASON LYNCH | Cumberland, RI | Cumberland High School (141/149)
Lynch is a transfer from Rhode Island College, spending one year there before transferring to Kent State. He won 142 matches during his high school career. Capped time at Cumberland as a three-time place winner finishing his senior year with a state title. Lynch was an academic all-state. Helped lead Cumberland to a perfect 17-0 dual record and a Rhode Island Team state title.
ENRIQUE MUNGUIA | Strongsville, Ohio | Elyria High School (157)
Munguia finished as a two-time state finalist winning 145 matches overall. His senior year had a 34-2 record and received a top three ranking in the nation at 160 pounds. He was a place winner at many prestigious high school events including Ironman, Beast of the East, and Super 32.
RYAN MUSGROVE | Perrysburg, Ohio | Perrysburg (184/197)
Musgrove was a two-time state qualifier as well as a two-time section and league champion and a district champion. Won over 100 matches while wrestling at Perrysburg. Excelled in the classroom as well, earning Academic All-Ohio honors.
LOUIS NEWELL | Cranberry Township, PA | Seneca Valley High School (141)
Spent three seasons with the Pitt Panthers and served as the Panthers' starter at 125 pounds. Newell placed four times at the Pennsylvania state wrestling tournament and was a runner-up as a sophomore and junior. He finished with a record of 156-25.
KADE ORR | Buhl, Idaho | Buhl High School (125)
Orr finished as a four-time Idaho State Champion. He lost just six times during his high school career and five of those were during his freshman season. Finished career 168-6 including 43-0 as a senior. One of 12 wrestlers in Idaho history to win a state title in all four years.
BOBBY PRYHOCKI | Lake Villa, IL | Carmel Catholic High School (Campbell) (157)
Pryhocki joins the Golden Flashes after four years at Campbell wrestling at both 149 and 157 pounds. Named to the SoCon academic honor roll all four seasons. Went 80-33 in his high school career and qualified for state as a senior. Pryhocki placed third at the Illinois State Freestyle Tournament.
CASEY WILES | Cincinnati, Ohio | LaSalle High School (133/141)
Wiles was a three-time state place winner and was the 132-pound runner up as a senior. Went 29-1 as a senior and won the District Championship. He was a first-team wrestler in the Greater Catholic League for LaSalle High School every year.
