KENT, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball team announced two signees on National Signing Day on Wednesday. Brenden Moss and Delrecco Gillespie will join the Flashes as members of the 2022 signing class. Â
Moss, a native of Rockford, Ill., attends Minnesota Prep Academy and plays for the AAU team, Kingdom Hoops. He and Minnesota Prep started off the Grind Session 2-0 with wins over Vertical Prep and Donda Academy. In those two games, Moss averaged 20.5 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game.
"Brenden is an elite offensive player," said Head Coach Rob Senderoff. "He has great size and impacts the game in a lot of ways. He is a tremendous shooter, but he is more than that. He can really score the basketball, pass and rebound. I think he has got a chance to be a really special player here."
Gillespie is coming to Kent from East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Ga. He played his club basketball on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit for Game Elite. Originally from Benton Harbor, Mich., "Recco" gives credit for his personal and athletic development to former coaches Justin Woodley, Mike Gillespie, Corey Sterling, Royal Maxwell, Frederick Sippial, Coach Parrish as well as his Auntie Quacy Timmons and God Mother Shalise Coleman.
"Recco is a talented frontcourt player who is active and athletic with high upside," said Senderoff. "We are really excited to add him to the program. I think he has got tremendous talent and ability to really grow as a basketball player and as a person here at Kent State."
Gillespie is the No. 8 ranked forward in Georgia, is leading a top-10 ranked team in the state and was named second team all-region in 2020-21.Â
Moss and Gillespie drew high praise from scouts, specifically TJ Kelley of Inside Prep Sports.Â
"The Golden Flashes had two great signees," said Kelley. "Brenden Moss has skill, athleticism and a consistent jumper. Moss is a top-12 player in Minnesota's 2022 class and picked up double digit offers this past summer. In addition to Moss, Delrecco Gillespie is a hard-nosed post player who hits the boards, plays above the rim and brings positive energy. He was very productive with Game Elite in Adidas' 3 Stripes league this spring and summer. Gillespie was a top-10 player in Michigan prior to moving to Georgia where he is a top-20 senior."
