Flashes Fall to CMU in MAC Opener

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball team (5-6, 0-1 MAC) dropped its Mid-American Conference opener to Central Michigan (2-10, 1-0 MAC) on Wednesday evening inside the M.A.C. Center, 72-69.
The Golden Flashes got off to a blazing start, jumping out to a 15-6 lead before letting the Chippewas fight and scratch their way back into the game. CMU took its first lead of the game with 22 seconds left in the opening half and led 31-30 at the break.
Central Michigan opened the second half on a 6-0 run and extended its lead to seven. The Chippewas led by as many as eight in the game, but the Flashes cut that lead to one multiple times throughout the second half.
The Flashes hit big shots down the stretch including threes by Tervell Beck and Sincere Carry which cut the lead to one both times. A huge three by Jermaine Jackson Jr., followed by four clutch free throws by Oscar Lopez Jr., gave the Chippewas the edge they needed to secure the victory.
Carry led the way for the Flashes, scoring 22 points and adding five rebounds. Malique Jacobs added 13 points and the pair combined to made 18 free throws.
Kent State shot just 32 percent from the field and 17 percent from three-point range. The two teams combined for over 45 fouls and both teams had multiple players foul out of the game.
