
McNally's Run to Title Match Highlights Day One at MAC Championships

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ- Andrew McNally secured a spot in the National Tournament and will wrestle for the 174 pound Conference title on Saturday, highlighting a solid first day of the MAC Wrestling Championships for the Golden Flashes.
McNally went a perfect 3-0 on Friday, winning each match in dominant fashion. McNally shutout Bloomsburg's Tanner Culver 11-0, pinned Austin Bell of Lock Haven and won a 12-2 major decision over George Mason's Paul Pierce. McNally will face Missouri's Peyton Mocco in the 174 title match on Saturday afternoon.
While McNally has secured his spot in the national tournament, several Golden Flashes can join him in Saint Louis tomorrow.
Jake Ferri earned an opening round bye at 125 pounds and won a decision against Edinboro's Lucas Rodriguez to earn a spot in the semis. Noah Surtin of Missouri topped Ferri in the semis, sending Ferri in the consolation bracket. Ferri will need to win two matches on Saturday to secure third place and an auto-bid into the National Tournament.
At 133 pounds, Brendon Fenton came in as the number two seed. He took care of Caleb Svingala of Buffalo in the opening round and was up on Cole Rhone of Bloomsburg in the third period. Rhone was able to get a take down and a near fall to pull the upset in the quarterfinals, 9-6. Fenton responded in the consolation round with a third period pin against Lock Haven's Matthew Maloney. He will face Bryce West, the six-seed on Saturday in the conference quarters, he will need to win three times on Saturday to claim third place. The top four finishers at 133 pounds get the auto-bid to the National Tournament.
Kody Komara has a shot at a trip to Saint Louis after a 2-1 day one on Friday. Komara, seeded fourth, earned a major decision victory over Kollin Myers of Lock Haven, taking the opening round 13-5. In the 4-5 matchup, Komara advanced to the semis with a 6-5 victory over Buffalo's Ben Freeman. In the semis, Komara was defeated by the top-seeded Brock Mauller of Missouri. He will need two wins on Saturday in the consolation semis and the third-place match to secure an auto bid.
James Limongi went 1-2 on Friday. Limongi drew a tough draw in the opening round in top seed Keegan O'Toole of Missouri. After dropping the opening match, Limongi drew a familiar foe in PJ Gohn of Edinboro. The two met as part of the Kent State round-robin two weeks ago, a match won 3-2 by Limongi. Again it was a close match and again Limongi came out on top, earning a 4-3 victory this time around. In the consolation second round, Kolby Ho of Clarion knocked off Limongi, 5-2.
The Golden Flashes will enter day two of the conference tournament in seventh place. Saturday's coverage will start at noon with the consolation quarterfinals. The championship round will get started around 2:30. Full results and a full schedule can be found here.
