AKRON, Ohio – On a wet and windy night in Akron, the Kent State soccer team (2-4-0) fell to the Zips (1-4-1) 1-0 in the Golden Flashes' first Wagon Wheel loss since 2010.
Akron got on the board in the 15th minute as Sarah Nguyen picked out Sydney Worthy in the box off a corner and Worthy nodded the ball home.
The Flashes pressed hard for the tying goal, winning four corners and recording four shots on goal all in the second half. Kent State had their best chance to equalize in the 89th minute as Keyosha Donkor hit the far post on a curling effort that beat the keeper but just missed the side netting.
Goalkeeper Sarah Melén and the Kent State defense played well in the loss, holding the Zips to four shots on goal with Melén recording three saves.
The Flashes will wrap up their three game road trip on Thursday as they travel to Buffalo for a 4 p.m. kick-off with the Bulls before returning home next Sunday for Senior Day versus the Miami Redhawks.
