Kent State Rallies in Late Innings to Beat RedHawks in Series Finale

OXFORD, Ohio – Kent State scored all of its runs after the start of the sixth inning and defeated Miami, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon to secure a key Mid-American Conference series victory.

The RedHawks plated a run in the third and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead.

A pair of two-out hits put the Golden Flashes on the board in the sixth. Justin Miknis doubled to left-center and scored on a single by Kevin Dobos.

The top of the seventh began with a walk, sac bunt and fielder's choice that placed runners on the corners. Collin Mathews tied it with a sac fly, and Ben Carew gave Kent State its first lead with a double.

Carew added his second RBI of the day with a sac fly in the top of the ninth that plated Michael McNamara. Cam Touchette followed with a single to center to make it 5-2. Mathews stole home for the Flashes' final run of the day.

A leadoff triple in the bottom of the ninth led to a run for Miami.

Kyle Jackson led Kent State at the plate with a career-high three hits.

Max Rippl was credited with the victory, striking out four of the six batters he faced over two scoreless relief innings.

Kent State moves to 17-18 on the season and 10-10 in the MAC. The Flashes return to Schoonover Stadium next weekend to host Ohio for a four-game set. First pitch on Friday night is set for 5 p.m.
