Softball Completes Series Sweep of Chippewas on Senior Day

KENT, Ohio – All four members of the 2021 senior class who will conclude their Kent State careers later this month provided hits in a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon to finish a sweep of visiting Central Michigan at the Diamond at Dix.

The Golden Flashes (20-21, 16-11 MAC) trailed 1-0 on a solo homer in the top of the second but struck for a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Senior Alexis Taube and redshirt senior Olivia Sborlini singled and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt for the second out in the frame. Senior Kennadie Goth brought both in to score with a single that fell in front of the CMU centerfielder.

The Chippewas hit another solo home run in the top of the fifth to tie it.

Senior Carlee Selle hit a double to center field to start the bottom of the sixth. After a pop-up on the infield for the first out in the frame, pinch runner Jade Ramer was able to move to third on a single by pinch hitter Emily Lippe. A throwing error by the CMU catcher on a pickoff attempt allowed Ramer to scurry home and score the go-ahead run that proved to be the difference.

Sophomore Morgan Bowers (2-1) tossed two scoreless relief innings to earn the victory. Bowers had one strikeout and allowed two hits. Sophomore Gabbie Sherman started in the circle and totaled two strikeouts over five innings.

Kent State is scheduled to visit rival Akron for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
