KENT, Ohio- Kent State men's basketball head coach Rob Senderoff announced the additions of alumni Jon Fleming as the Director of Basketball Operations and Randal Holt as Assistant Coach to his staff on Wednesday.
Holt, who enters his third season in coaching, comes from Stony Brook where he spent two seasons on Geno Ford's staff.
"I am really excited and happy to bring Randal back here to Kent State," said Senderoff. "I recruited Randal to Kent State back in 2012 when I was an assistant coach and he was coming out of high school in Cleveland, and to now be able to work with Randal here at Kent State as he continues his coaching career is awesome. As all Kent State fans know, Randal is fiercely competitive and loyal. I know he will do a great job representing our University while coaching our current student-athletes to be the best they can be along with recruiting some great future players for us here at Kent State."
Holt, a former guard for the Golden Flashes (2009-13) was a celebrated three-point marksman during his playing days and is the second all-time three-pointers made with 247 with two MAC semifinal appearances. The Cleveland Glenville High School product averaged 14.7 points while leading Kent State to a 21-14 record as a senior in 2012-13, sinking 83 3-pointers while shooting 39 percent from distance. Before joining Stony Brook's staff, Holt served as the Flashes' Director of Player Development during the 2018-19 season.
" I'm very excited and grateful to be a part of the Kent State family," said Holt. " I want to personally thank Coach Senderoff for giving me this opportunity to be part of this great program. It's a blessing to be able to come back and pour into young people's lives. I'm eager to return and get to work with so many great people."
Fleming, who served as a graduate assistant for three seasons and Director of Player Development for a season, takes over as Director of Basketball Operations.
"Jon has been in various roles here at Kent State ever since graduating in 2017," added Senderoff. "He was a four-year player for us here and came to Kent State because he knew he wanted to be a coach after college and knew about the numerous former players that went on to become coaches. Jon has earned this opportunity through his dedication to our program for many, many years. I am really excited for him to start in this new role and to continue to see Jon develop into an outstanding coach."
While playing for Kent State, Fleming earned the respect and admiration of his teammates for preparing as hard as anyone on the roster.
"I am beyond excited to continue working under Coach Senderoff here at Kent State," said Fleming. "It is and honor to have worked and played at a program with so much tradition and such a great culture. It is my goal to help our student-athletes continue to excel on and off the court. I think we have a great team and staff for this upcoming season, and I can't wait to get to work."
