KENT, Ohio- A familiar face to Kent State Basketball fans is set to return to the bench this fall, as a coach instead of a player. Head coach Rob Senderoff announced that Kevin Zabo is returning to the program as a graduate assistant.
"I am extremely excited to add Kevin to our staff," said Senderoff. "As a former student-athlete here at Kent State who then went on to play professional basketball, Kevin will be a great asset to our players and our program. I loved coaching Kevin when he played here and can't wait to work with him as he begins the next phase of his career."
Zabo, a native of Quebec, played two seasons with the Flashes. In his senior season, he played in all 34 games for the Flashes, finishing second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game. He led Kent State with 36 steals and finished second on the team with 82 assists. He pulled down 108 boards and made 79 percent of his free throws.
In his junior season, Zabo was one of five players to have appeared in 36 games. He averaged 4.6 points per game and shot 53.5 percent in 2-point shots in MAC play. Zabo scored 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting against UCLA in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
After Kent State, Zabo played professionally for Albacete Basket and CB Ciudad de Ponferrada.
He will join a Flashes' staff including Julian Sullinger, Randal Holt, and Jon Fleming- all of whom played for Kent State as well, and Aaron Fuss.
