
Flashes Announce Signing of Andrew Garcia and Akeem Odusipe

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball program has announced the additions of Andrew Garcia and Akeem Odusipe to the Flashes' incoming class for the 2021-22 season on Monday.
A 6-foot-6 guard, Garcia comes to Kent State from Georgia. At Georgia, Garcia was the only Bulldog to play in every game off the bench last season. He averaged 8.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 17 minutes per game over 26 outings. Garcia recorded 11 double-figure scoring outputs and one double-digit rebounding count. He scored his 1,000th career point against South Carolina. Prior to Georgia, Garcia played at Stony Brook where he was named American East Conference Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 9.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. During the 2019-20 season, Garcia earned Second Team All-America East honors and averaged 13.3 points and 6.7 boards per game.
"I'm Really excited about Andrew joining the Flashes," said head coach Rob Senderoff. "He's unquestionably an impact player that has a ton of experience and can play a number of positions."
A 6-foot-9 forward, Odusipe comes to Kent State from Vanderbilt. During the 2020-21 season, Odusipe played in 11 games, including eight conference games and one SEC Tournament game. He finished the season with six points on 3-of-7 (.429) shooting, 13 rebounds, and two assists. Prior to Vanderbilt, Odusipe prepped at Catholic High School (Tenn.) under head coach Mike Hutchens. He finished his career with 1,258 points, 909 rebounds, and 192 blocks. He led the team to 2020 TSSAA DII-AA State Championship with a 25-4 record. Odusipe was named two-time All-District and All-District.
"Akeem was one of the best rebounders in high school," added Senderoff. " He played on Under Armor circuit, has a great motor, developing skill and all-around game, and a great athlete. We do a good job developing our bigs and are excited for him to be here especially because he has multiple years to play here."
Garcia will have one year to play, while Odusipe will have four years to play. Both are eligible to play in the 2021-22 season.
