
Munguia's Triumph Leads Flashes at Clarion Open

CLARION, PA- Enrique Munguia capped a perfect 4-0 day with a 6-4 victory by decision in the championship match at 165 pounds to lead the Flashes at the Clarion Open on Sunday.
Munguia was seeded fifth in Sunday's bracket and won a trio of decisions (6-3, 10-6, 9-3) to earn his way into the champion bout where he defeated the Naval Academy's Val Park.
The 165-pound sophomore highlighted the season opener for the Flashes. Kent State took 26 wrestlers to Sunday's open, several of whom were making their collegiate debuts.
At 125 pounds, Jacob Haupt picked up his first collegiate win with a fall in the second period against Jeffery Jacome of Gardner-Webb and went 1-2 on the day. Nico Callelo defeated teammate Zachary Starr by decision on Sunday for his first career win and also went 1-2 on Sunday. Sophomore Kade Orr went 2-2 on Sunday, picking up a pair of victories over wrestlers from Spartan Combat and host Clarion.
At 133 pounds, Landon Hacker earned his first collegiate win, recording a second-period fall over George Oroudjov of Spartan Combat and went 1-2 on Sunday. Ryan Aquilani also went 1-2 at 133 pounds in his first action as a Golden Flash. He earned a 10-4 victory over Hunter Verge of host Clarion.
Five wrestlers saw action at 141 pounds for Kent State. Billy Meiszner went 1-2 including his first Golden Flash victory, a 6-0 shutout of Tyler Lamon of Gardner-Webb. Sophomore Casey Wiles picked up a pair of victories by decision and finished the opening weekend at 2-2. Kaden Setzer earned his first college win, a fall over fellow Caden, Reamer of Slippery Rock. Setzer went 1-2 on Sunday. One of his losses was to sophomore teammate Mikey Lewarchick who earned a major decision in the head-to-head bout for his lone win on Sunday.
Ethan Barr also earned a fall for his first collegiate win. The 149-pounder earned a first-period fall, dropping Zach Soda of Edinboro at the two-minute mark. Sophomore Aidan Faria earned a pair of victories in the 165-pound bracket, including a fall only 90 seconds into his match with Bucknell's Nick Arbes.
Ashton Breen picked up a win at 184 pounds for the Flashes, earning a 8-2 win over Purdue's Mitch Hutmacher. Miles Ashbaugh joined the group of Flashes to earn a fall in their first college action. Ashbaugh dismissed Andy Rosa of Spartan Combat at the start of the third period. Ryan Boyle edged out Brett Whitman of Clarion in a 3-2 decision for Boyle's win on Sunday. At heavyweight, Joshua Boggan picked up a pair of victories, including a 20-5 technical fall over Pitt-Johnstown's Eric Gamble Jr.
