Spokane, WA - The Kent State men's basketball team fell short to Gonzaga, 73-66, Monday night inside the McCarthey Athletic Center.
In a game that had 12 different lead changes, the Flashes could not get the lead they needed in order to secure the win. Miryne Thomas got the Flashes on the board scoring the first five points of the game. Thomas recorded a team-high 16 points including four 3-pointers. Malique Jacobs also helped keep the team afloat with his 11 points and five rebounds.
The fans were full of commotion when the Flashes pulled a 66-62 lead with just under four minutes left of the game. Gonzaga regained the lead for a final time after guard Julian Strawther nailed a 3-pointer. Gonzaga's Drew Timme gave the Flashes' defense a run for their money scoring a game-high 29 points, 17 rebounds, and four assists.
Sincere Carry was working the court once again recording 10 points, five defensive rebounds, and a game-high six assists. The Flashes' bench showed up once again when their team needed it. Both Jalen Sullinger and VonCameron Davis chipped in nine points.
With an unfortunate scoring drought in the last minute of the game, Gonzaga was able to pull away just enough to secure a win. This is the second game the Flashes have faced a topped rank opponent where the games came down to the last minutes. The Flashes move on to face three more non-conference games before beginning Mid-American Conference play at home against Western Michigan.
