Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes (14-20, 5-9 MAC) captured its second MAC series win in a row by taking two of three games at Northern Illinois over the weekend. Sophomore Emily Lippe drove in the winning runs with a two-run blast in the top of the ninth for a 3-1 victory in the opener on Friday. The Huskies plated five in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal Saturday's first game, 6-5, and even the series. Freshman Kylie Ringler followed with a shutout in the second game of the doubleheader and sophomore Jessica LeBeau drove in a pair of runs in the 3-0 win.
The trio of LeBeau, Ringler and redshirt senior Andrea Scali was excellent, posting a 1.54 earned run average for the series and allowing only three extra-base hits.
Senior Sabrina Kerschner had a team-high five hits and was one of five players who hit a double in the series. Lippe homered twice and recorded six RBIs. Fifth-year Brenna Brownfield saw her first action in six weeks and missed a home run by a couple of centimeters in her second plate appearance of the weekend.
Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats (17-19, 11-6 MAC) are second in the conference standings and the only MAC team that has defeated Miami this season, taking two of three games in Oxford at the beginning of the month. Ohio went 2-1 against Central Michigan this past weekend and has not lost a series since the conference opener at Buffalo.
A balanced lineup includes five players who are hitting .300 or better, five players with at least 15 RBIs and seven players with at least four home runs. Annalia Paoli leads the way with a .373 batting average and 25 runs scored. Allie Englant is hitting .342 and is second in the MAC with 19 stolen bases. Megan McMenemy leads the team in extra-base hits (15) and Caroline Spacek has a team-high 26 RBIs.
Mackensie Kohl (11-11) has recorded 103 strikeouts while tossing a MAC-high 148.1 innings. Kohl owns a 4.39 ERA and is allowing opponents to hit .292 against her. Kylie Coffelt (6-8) is the only other pitcher to make an appearance this season and has a 5.35 ERA over 90.1 innings.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State will play a three-game series at Toledo, beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 23.
