Flashes Crack Four Homers, End Wagon Wheel Opener Early

KENT, OHIO- The Flashes continued swinging hot bats, blasting four more homers and rapped out 14 hits in an eight-inning 12-2 run rule victory in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel series opener.
It was once again a balanced effort as seven different players drove in at least one run and eight different Flashes scored on Friday afternoon.
After a quiet first two innings, the Flashes erupted for five in the third and never looked back. Mack Timbrook made the Zips pay for an error with a run-scoring double and he was immediately brought home by a Michael McNamara single. The hit parade continued with a Josh Johnson run-scoring single and a Justin Kirby homer to left. Collin Mathews and Justin Miknis closed the barrage with doubles to help hang the crooked number.
Josh Johnson homered in the fifth to make it 6-0 and Mack Timbrook hit a two-run shot an inning later to make it an 8-0 game. That was more than enough for freshman Eric Chalus. The lefty put together another strong outing, going six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three. He handed the ball off to Calvin Bickerstaff who closed things out with two scoreless innings of relief.
Kent State poured it on late, adding four insurance runs to envoke the run rule. Mathews had a run-scoring single, as did Aidan Longwell and Justin Miknis was the fourth Golden Flash to leave the yard, homering to left center in the eighth.
The win runs the Flashes streak to three and moves the record to 16-20 overall and 11-12 in the MAC. The two rivals will meet for two tomorrow, starting with the seven inning game with a noon first pitch.
