KENT, Ohio – Sophomore Jessica LeBeau had 10 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run as Kent State fell to Western Michigan, 1-0, in the opening game of a Mid-American Conference softball series Friday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix.
The Golden Flashes (17-24, 8-13 MAC) committed three errors, including two on a single play that allowed the game's only run to score in the top of the sixth inning.
Senior Brooklyn Whitt was Kent State's only player to reach base, doing so twice. Whitt used her speed for a bunt single in the fourth and then stole second base, where she was stranded. She added a single to lead off the seventh. Â
LeBeau (5-10) held the Broncos to only four hits and did not issue a walk.
Kent State and Western Michigan will finish the series with two games on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Between games of the doubleheader, the Golden Flashes will celebrate upcoming facility upgrades and the re-naming of its home field to the Devine Diamond. We invite fans to join us in celebration of longtime Kent State Athletics ambassador and supporter Judy Devine and the continued impact her generosity will have on women's athletics and gender equity.
