KENT, Ohio – Fifth-year Madyson Cole hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and redshirt senior Andrea Scali shut Central Michigan down in the top of the seventh to give Kent State a 2-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix. The Chippewas earned a 4-0 victory in the opening game of the day.

The Golden Flashes (10-18, 2-8 MAC) collected six hits in each game. Cole, sophomore Madison Hershberger, junior Julia Mazanec and senior Brooklyn Whitt had two hits apiece to lead the way.

Game 1: Central Michigan 4, Kent State 0
Central Michigan took advantage of a walk and throwing error that placed a runner in scoring position with two outs in the top of the second inning, as Maddie Springer gave the visitors a 1-0 lead with a single to right field.

The Chippewas added solo home runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Kent State's best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the sixth. Julia Mazanec and Madyson Cole attempted to start a two-out rally with back-to-back hits, but both were stranded in scoring position.

Jessica LeBeau (3-9) recorded 12 strikeouts in a complete game effort.

Game 2: Kent State 2, Central Michigan 1
The Golden Flashes plated a run in the bottom of the first inning for their first lead of the day. Brooklyn Whitt blooped a single over the third baseman's head, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Julia Mazanec and scored on a single sent back up the middle by Emily Lippe.

Central Michigan tied it in the top of the second on a pair of singles and wild pitch.

It remained tied in the bottom of the sixth before Madyson Cole launched the first pitch of her at-bat over the fence in left field for her fifth home run of the season to put Kent State ahead 2-1.

Andrea Scali (2-7) struck out the first two batters in the top of the seventh and recorded the final out of the game on a high fly ball on the infield. Scali finished with eight strikeouts.

Kent State and Central Michigan will play the series rubber match on Wednesday. First pitch from the Diamond at Dix is scheduled for 12 p.m.
