KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Golden Flashes announced the signing of two transfer student-athletes, Miryne Thomas and Mike Bekelja, on Friday.Â
Thomas, a transfer from Ball State, will look to make an immediate impact in the frontcourt for the Flashes. The Cleveland, Ohio, native returns home after spending three seasons with the Cardinals. Thomas averaged 11.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during the 2021-22 season, and he connected on 55 three-pointers.Â
"We are really familiar with Miryne [Thomas] having played against him for the last few years," said Head Coach Rob Senderoff. "We recruited him when he transferred from Maryland Eastern Shore, and we could not be more excited that he is joining us for his last season. He is one of the best three-point shooters in the conference and his skillset fills a big need for us."
"Mike [Bekelja] is really competitive," said Senderoff. "We have followed him since high school because of his toughness and ability to shoot the ball. The plan right now is for us to redshirt and then have three years to play after that. We are really excited to bring his toughness and competitiveness to Kent State."
Bekelja, a transfer from Duquesne, joins the Golden Flashes after spending two years with the Dukes. The brother of Sincere Carry played in 23 games with six starts during the 2021-22 season. He brings high energy and competitiveness to the Flashes' roster.
With the addition of Thomas and Bekelja, the Golden Flashes are up to five newcomers for the 2022-23 season. Two true freshmen in Brenden Moss and Delrecco Gillespie along with junior college transfer Chris Payton will all look to make an impact for the Flashes next season.
