ONTARIO, Canada.... Last weekend, Kent State head men's golf Coach Jon Mills was inducted into the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame, among a star-studded 2022 class.
Mills was joined by Danny Mijovic, Brian McCann, and Nick Genovese who all become part of an elite group of Canadian golfers.
"Obviously this means a lot to me," Mills said. "As a junior golfer you have these dreams of what you want to do and this shows that what I did in the game warrants those dreams."
After an incredibly successful collegiate career at Kent State, Mills went on to more of the same in the CPGA and PGA, contending in 70 PGA Tour events including three US Opens.
During his professional playing days, he racked up key wins at the Manitoba MTS Classic, Canadian Tour of Merit, Toledo Open, Western Pennsylvania Open, Boise Open, and 2005 CPGA Championship.
Mills becomes the second member of his family to enter the hall, joining his father Jeff as a part of Ontario golf history.
"My parents got me into golf and were big supporters of me throughout my career," he said. "They were always there for me when I struggled and they helped get me started at a time where I didn't really have that much support. It's special to have people like that in your corner and it's very special to be enshrined in the hall of fame with my dad."
Mills returns to Kent State for a fourth season this fall looking to lead the Flashes to a sixth consecutive Mid-American Conference Title.
