
Kent State Picked Second in MAC Field Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll

CLEVELAND — The Kent State field hockey team has been voted to finish second in the Mid-American Conference in 2022, as the conference office announced the preseason coaches' poll Monday morning.
The Golden Flashes totaled of 52 points in the poll, finishing eight behind fellow 2021 regular season co-champion Miami. The RedHawks received five first-place votes, with Kent State (1) and Longwood (2) also receiving votes.
Head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer enters her fourth season leading the Flashes with a veteran unit that is highlighted by senior Maria Cambra Soler, an All-MAC First Team performer in 2021. Cambra Soler is joined by senior Sydney Washburn and juniors Danielle Hamm, Alex Sacker, Victoria Tinghitella and Katie Wuerstle to give Kent State six returners who started all 18 games a season ago.
The top four teams in the regular season standings will compete for the 2022 MAC Field Hockey Tournament championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Miami will serve as host again with the semifinals scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4 and followed by the championship on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The Flashes will open the regular season at Indiana on Friday, Aug. 26 and remain in Bloomington to battle 2021 national runner-up Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 27.
