
Flashes Drop Pair in Opening Day at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, VA- The Golden Flashes dropped a pair of duals at the opening day of the Virginia Duals, dropping a 29-12 decision to Campbell in the opener and 38-9 to #17 South Dakota State in the nightcap.

In a matchup of top-40 wrestlers, Anthony Molton topped Jake Ferri by an 8-6 decision. Ferri stormed back in the third period but came up two points shy of sending the match into extra time. The Flashes would get on the board at 149 pounds where Kody Komara controlled his match against Chris Rivera, earning a 6-2 decision. Enrique Munguia got the Flashes' first pin of the weekend, catching Brant Cracraft forty-two seconds into the second period to record the fall. For Komara it was his 12th win of the year, improving to 12-6 overall, Munguia recorded his second fall of the season and is now 19-4 on the year.
Former Camel Michael Ferree grinded out a 3-2 win over Cole Rees at 174 pounds to bring the Flashes to within five at 17-12. Campbell would win the final two matches on Friday, including a 10-7 thriller at 285 pounds. Jacob Cover gave Taye Ghadiali, who came in 15th in the NCAA, all he could handle in the final match of the dual.

In the night cap on Friday, the Golden Flashes were bested by the #17 Jackrabbits 38-9.
The Flashes started strong with Jake Ferri besting Tanner Jordan, with a 7-6 decision. It is the second time in Ferri's career he's bested Jordan, edging him 6-4 back in December of 2021.
Brendon Fenton celebrated his birthday with a clock-beating pin of Derrick Cardinal. Fenton caught Cardinal and secured the fall with two seconds remaining in the first period.
Enrique Munguia lost a shootout with 10th ranked Tanner Cook. Munguia nearly erased an early 8-2 deficit and had a substantial advantage in riding time but ran out of time in a 15-11 setback.
Kent State will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they take on Virginia. The Flashes will close the duals with the Navy Midshipmen at 2:30 p.m.
