Flashes Wrap Up Tennessee Collegiate Classic

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Kent State gymnastics team posted a score of 195.925 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic in Lebanon, Tenn., on Friday night.
The Golden Flashes tallied the third-highest score of the night, beating Southeast Missouri State (195.350) and Fisk (190.025). Ball State won the five-team event with a score of 196.550, followed by Lindenwood with a 196.175.
Competing in Olympic order, the Flashes started their night on vault. Senior Rachel DeCavitch and junior Kyndall Gilbert both scored a 9.800. Freshman Zoe Rankin posted a 9.750 in her first collegiate vault as the Flashes opened the night with a 48.700.
On bars, DeCavitch posted the first 9.900 for the Flashes this season. Gilbert (9.800) and sophomore Brynne Tsipis (9.825) each matched their personal bests in the event as the Flashes scored a 49.050 in the second rotation. Senior Olivia Amodei scored a 9.825 as well.
Junior Sarah Haxton led the way for the Flashes on beam with a 9.850, the best individual score Kent State has posted so far this season in the event. Senior Cami Klein scored a 9.825 for her routine, while DeCavitch continued her strong night with a 9.800 as the Flashes totaled a 48.875 team score.
The Flashes saved their best event for last, totaling a 49.300 on floor. Senior Karlie Franz and sophomore Alyssa Guns both scored 9.900s to lead the way for Kent State. Amodei (9.850), DeCavitch (9.825) and sophomore Grace Wehry (9.825) all had strong routines, and Haxton matched her personal best with a 9.750.
DeCavitch placed second of seven in the all-around competition with a 39.325.

The Flashes will host their first home meet of the 2023 season on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center. Kent State's "Beauty and the Beast" event, which features the gymnastics and wrestling teams competing simultaneously inside of the M.A.C. Center, makes its return for the first time since 2019. Gymnastics will host Western Michigan while wrestling will take on Clarion.
