
Andrassy Promotes Mitcheff to Associate Head Coach

KENT- Golden Flashes head coach Jim Andrassy has announced that Danny Mitcheff('10)has been elevated to associate head coach.
"I'm honored and grateful to be named the associate head wrestling coach of Kent State University," Mitcheff said. "Our program has achieved many successes, both academically and athletically. We have a dedicated team and staff, and I am eager to continue to help our program excel on and off the mat."
As an assistant coach, Mitcheff helped produce 17 national qualifiers, led three student-athletes to conference championships, and mentored three individuals who earned the MAC Medal of Excellence.
"Danny has been a huge part of the success of the Kent State wrestling program over the last 15 years since he was a student-athlete, I'm very proud to be able to give him the title of associate head coach," Coach Andrassy said. "He's well-deserving of this position and has done an outstanding job in all facets of the program."
In seven seasons with Mitcheff on staff, the Golden Flashes finished the year with a top-20 team GPA in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Team Scholar All-American standings six times. Eleven individuals earned NWCA Scholar All-American awards, and a total of 50 wrestlers were Academic All-MAC recipients.
"I want to thank Coach Andrassy for his guidance and for recognizing my contribution. I would also like to thank Randale Richmond and the administration for this opportunity," Mitcheff added.
The 2010 graduate is a 2017 Varsity K Hall of Fame inductee and has been on the Kent State coaching staff since 2016. His hall-of-fame career was highlighted by 131 victories, second all-time at Kent State. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier, finishing sixth at the 2010 National Tournament, earning All-America status. He was named the 2010 MAC Wrestler of the Year for his efforts. After graduation, Mitcheff's wrestling career continued six years after Kent State in freestyle competition. He qualified for the United States World Team Trials four times, placing as high as fourth. Mitcheff also has five top-six finishes at the U.S. Open.
Mitcheff and the Golden Flashes are next in action on December 2nd, taking part in the Gardner-Webb Quad in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
