KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kent State women's soccer team lost 2-1 to Ohio in the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon.
Things went the way of Kent State early as the Golden Flashes got on the board in just the third minute. Alisa Arthur battled through two defenders and found Alanna Raimondo, who sent a shot all the way across the box and into the netting.
The goal was the fourth of the season for the MAC All-Freshman selection and Arthur's assist was her team-best sixth of the year.
Kent State held the lead heading into the halftime break. Sarah Melén made several tough saves to keep the Bobcats off the board in the opening 45 minutes. Melén finished the day with eight saves for the Flashes.
Ohio came out of the halftime break strong, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes of the second half. As time ticked down, the Flashes were unable to find the equalizer. Kent State sent a number of quality shots at the net but could not get past Ohio's keeper, who tallied six stops.
The Bobcats cut out two dangerous balls played off of set pieces in the final minutes to clinch their first conference title in program history.
Callie Cunningham and Siena Stambolich led the Flashes' offense in the box score with three shots each. Cunningham, Stambolich and Arthur earned MAC All-Tournament honors for their play throughout the postseason.
