BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Golden Flashes found themselves on the wrong end of a trio of duals on Saturday, falling to Buffalo, Chattanooga and host Gardner Webb.
Against Buffalo Kent State fell 25-15. The Flashes got a trio of big time wins as Billy Meiszner earned a major decision over Andy Lucinsky. The 141-pounder got a trio of takedowns and the riding time bonus in a one-sided 9-1 major decision. Kent State also dominated in the heavy weights as Blake Schaffer and Josh Boggan each picked up lop-sided wins as well. Schaffer bounced back from an early takedown to record a four-point near fall to give him momentum in what became a 20-5 technical fall in the third period. Boggan turned a takedown in the second period into a fall at the 3:32 mark to dispatch Magnus Bibla.
Kyle Snider picked up a victory against Chattanooga, earning an 8-3 win after using a pair of takedowns and the riding time bonus to defeat Landon Lewis. It was the only win for the Flashes in a 38-3 setback.
Against host Gardner-Webb, the home Runnin' Bulldogs emerged victorious 28-11. Meiszner picked up his second win of the day, taking home an 8-5 decision over Todd Carter. Meiszner rallied from down 5-4 heading into the third, using an escape at the start of the period and a takedown to win the third period 4-0 and earn the decision. Both Keegan Knapp and Aaron Ferguson earned major decisions for the Flashes. Knapp had six takedowns in a 20-9 victory while Ferguson had a pair of takedowns in a 8-0 shutout. The Bulldogs would win out, including a wild 31-23 shootout at 197 pounds against Schaffer. Schaffer fought off three near falls and had five takedowns of his own in the shootout loss.
Kent State will open up the 2023-24 slate on Friday, welcoming in VMI, Mount Union and Gannon for the Kent State quad. All of the action starts inside the M.A.C.C. at 1 p.m.
