KENT- The Golden Flashes honored their senior class and sent them out with an emphatic 32-9 dual victory over the Bloomsburg Huskies.
Jake Ferri, Kody Komara, Mason Karpinski and Tyler Bates all won their senior day matches with Ferri earning the bonus point with a major decision victory.
The Flashes took control of the dual with Komara's 3-2 win over Cade Balestrini. Komara got a takedown and traded escapes with Balestrini. Komara wrestled with excellent defense after getting the takedown and prevented Balestrini from landing a go-ahead takedown as time expired.
Keegan Knapp and Enrique Munguia were both impressive with their victories. Knapp landed eight takedowns as part of a dominant 18-7 win over John Reho. Munguia took control of his match against Trenton Harder from the jump and landed the pinfall 80 seconds into the bout. The sophomore landed his shot and got Harder off balance and was able to flip Harder onto his back and earned the fall.
Karpinski and Bates both controlled their respective matches in one-sided decisions. Karpinski landed a pair of takedowns in his win over Anth0ny DeRosa and never let DeRosa get comfortable in a 4-1 win. Bates followed the same script. After a scoreless first, Bates landed a four-point nearfall to take control of his match with Bruno Stolfi. Bates added an escape and secured the riding time in a 6-0 shutout.
Jake Ferri won in dominant fashion over Bronson Garber. Ferri landed six takedowns in his match and only allowed Garber to score via the escape.
The match of the night closed the dual with Louis Newell taking down Cole Rhone who had come into the dual as the number two wrestler at 133 pounds in the MAC. Newell used impressive quickness to land a trio of takedowns to frustrate Rhone and earned his first victory at 133 pounds after dropping from 141 pounds.
The victory gives the Flashes some momentum as they train for the conference tournament. The MAC Championships will be March 3-4 on the campus of George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia.
