Lippe’s Hot Bat Leads Flashes Friday at Queen City Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Emily Lippe extended her hitting streak to seven games and blasted her fourth home run of the season as Kent State (4-7) dropped a pair of contests at the Queen City Classic on Friday.

Game 1: Boston 8, Kent State 0 (6 innings)
The Golden Flashes threatened in the top of the first inning, as a single by Julia Mazanec and walk drawn by Savannah Wing placed a runner in scoring position with only one out. A ground ball to short advanced both runners, but a fly ball to right field ended the frame.

Kent State reached safely just once more the rest of the game on a single by Emily Lippe in the fourth.

Boston scored two unearned runs in the second inning and then added three in the third and two in the fourth to lead 7-0. After the side was retired in the fifth, a walk, two singles and hit batter forced the winning run across the plate.

Anilese Kelly (2-3) went the distance in the circle for the Flashes. Kelly totaled three strikeouts and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.

Game 2: Penn State 11, Kent State 2 (6 innings)
Facing a 5-0 deficit entering the fourth inning, Bri Despines collected the Flashes' first hit of the game with a double to left-center. Two batters later, Emily Lippe crushed a home run to left field to get Kent State on the scoreboard.

Penn State answered with three runs in the fourth inning and then brought the game to an end on a three-run homer with two outs in the sixth.

Morgan Bowers (1-2) got the start inside the circle and had two strikeouts while allowing three earned runs in two innings. Macy Irelan tossed the final 3.2 innings and allowed five earned runs over 3.2 innings.

On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State returns to action for two games on Saturday. First pitch against Georgia Tech is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the Flashes will finish the day against host Charlotte at 6 p.m.
