Lippe Hits Fifth Home Run in Sunday Loss to Georgia Tech

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Emily Lippe blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Kent State was unable to complete the late rally and fell to Georgia Tech, 7-4, in the team's final game at the Queen City Classic on Sunday.
The Golden Flashes (4-10) scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third. Graduate student Jada Crittendon got the frame started with a single and then stole second base. Freshman Brynn Libler then drew a walk and senior Julia Mazanec hit a double down the left field line to plate Crittendon. Back-to-back walks drawn by sophomore Savannah Wing and Lippe allowed Libler to come around and score to make it 2-0.
Freshman Macy Irelan held the Yellow Jackets scoreless through four innings before getting into trouble in the fifth. A double and two singles to start the frame got Georgia Tech on the board. Two more singles and two stolen bases put the Yellow Jackets ahead 4-2.
Freshman Bri Despines attempted to provide an answer in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff double, but the next three batters were retired.
The Yellow Jackets added three runs in the top of the seventh to make it 7-2.
Kent State attempted to rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, as Wing singled down the right field line and Lippe followed with her fifth home run of the season. Sophomore Delaney Robeson kept the game alive by drawing a walk, but the Flashes were unable to get any more runners aboard.
Irelan (1-4) tossed five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. Senior Morgan Bowers recorded one strikeout while allowing three runs over the final two innings.
The Flashes will play four games in Huntington, West Virginia next weekend as part of the Thundering Herd Round Robin.
