Flashes Advance to MAC Tournament Championship

Cleveland, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball team (27-6, 15-3 MAC) advances to the MAC Tournament Finals after defeating rival Akron 79-73. The Flashes will take on Toledo Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. inside the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. Saturday's contest will be available on ESPN2.
The Flashes won six MAC Championships with the last being in 2017. This will be the second time Toledo and the Flashes will face one another this season. The Flashes defeated Toledo in the regular season 75-63. The Flashes are 4-1 against the Rockets in the MAC Tournament.
The Flashes came out ready for redemption against rival Akron in a packed Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Kent State put points up fast leading by 15 in the opening half, the Zips answered with a 13-0 run to close the half to enter the intermission trailing by four, 38-34. Sincere Carry helped keep the Flashes afloat with 12 points and three assists in the first 20 minutes while Miryne Thomas added eight points.
The Flashes continued to dominate the game in the final half. Miryne Thomas poured in a team-high 24 points, five rebounds, and two steals and shot perfectly from the charity line(10-of-10). Sincere Carry came in just behind him with 21 points and a team-high three assists. This is only the second time that two players recorded 20+ points in the same game this season, the last time was in their matchup against Toledo.
Despite a 10-1 run by the Zips in the last 20 minutes of the game, the Flashes took advantage of the free throw line to secure the victory. With a win against rival Akron, the Flashes regained a full point in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge.

The Golden Flashes head to the MAC Tournament Championship game and will face No. 1 Toledo. The Flashes are set to play Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
