Gymnastics Comes Up Just Short Against CMU on Senior Day

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team narrowly fell to Central Michigan in its Senior Day meet on Sunday afternoon in the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes posted a 195.975 team score, just two tenths shy of the Chippewas' 196.175 mark. Senior Rachel DeCavitch finished second in the all-around competition with a 39.325 total.
ROTATION ONE
Competing in Olympic order, the Flashes opened the meet on vault, combining for a 48.950 team score. Junior Kyndall Gilbert led the squad with a 9.850, tying for second in the event and matching her season high. Junior Kennedy Weinpert earned a 9.825 and DeCavitch added a 9.800 to give the Flashes the lead after the first rotation.
ROTATION TWO
Junior Sarah Haxton tied for the win on bars with a 9.850, which set a new season-high score. Senior Karlie Franz kicked off her senior day with a 9.825, giving her a share of third place. DeCavitch and freshman Nastia Rudnitskaya each totaled 9.800, which matched Rudnitskaya's career high, as the Flashes tallied a 49.000 in the event.
ROTATION THREE
On beam, Haxton and graduate student Cami Klein tied for third, each scoring 9.850 to match their season-high marks. DeCavitch earned a 9.800, continuing her strong meet as the Flashes combined for a 48.750. Entering the final rotation, the Flashes trailed Central Michigan by four tenths, 147.100-146.700.
ROTATION FOUR
The Flashes once again saved their best for last, earning a 49.275 on floor. Karlie Franz placed second in the event with a 9.925, her sixth-consecutive meet with a 9.9+ on floor. DeCavtich scored a 9.900 to wrap up her last regular season meet for the Flashes, while sophomores Alyssa Guns and Grace Wehry tallied a 9.850 and a 9.825, respectively.
