KENT, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball program announced the signing of Tyem Freeman to the 2023 class.Â
Freeman, a junior college transfer from Indian Hills Community College, spent time at the University of Central Florida the last two seasons and will now join the Golden Flashes for the 2023-24 campaign. The Springfield, MO. native joins Donovan Hunter, LA Hayes, and Reggie Bass as the newest members of the Flashes.
"We are really excited to add a player of Tyem's caliber to our team next season," said Head Coach Rob Senderoff. "He has great experience, versatility, and his athleticism and skills will have a tremendous impact on our program."Â
The Indian Hills to Kent State pipeline hopes to be fruitful again after the successes of Chris Payton, Malique Jacobs, Kevin Zabo, and Antonio Williams.Â
Freeman was named to the National Junior College Association of America first-team All-American as a freshman at Indian Hills CC after he averaged 18.1 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 52.2 percent from the field. He also led Indian Hills to a 21-3 record, a Region XI Championship, and a no. 6 overall ranking.
After being named a first-team All-American at the juco level, Freeman made a move to Central Florida where he appeared in 54 games in two seasons while starting two. He averaged 11.8 minutes this past season while averaging 3.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and one assist per game.
Freeman played this past season as a redshirt junior. He will have at least two years of eligibility remaining.
