Flashes Drop Pair at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON ROADS, VA- The Golden Flashes dropped a pair of duals on Friday at the historic Virginia Duals, falling to #17 South Dakota State and the University of Virginia.
Against the #17 Jackrabbits, Pablo Castro got a pair of takedowns in his bout with #13 Derrick Cardinal, who pulled away in the third period. Meisner wrestled a defensive match with #33 Clay Carlson, recording a pair of escapes in a 5-2 loss.
Against UVA, Meiszner kept his strong wrestling going, defeating Joe Haynes by an 18-2 technical fall. Meiszner used a first-period takedown and a second period escape to gain the early momentum before turning things on in the third. He recorded a pair of takedowns and used the second takedown to record a four-point near fall, triggering the technical fall and ending the match.
Matt Ryan kept the momentum on the Flashes' side with a 17-5 major decision victory over Luca Errico. Ryan stormed out of the gate with a nine-point first period, highlighted by a pair of takedowns and a two-point near fall. He added takedowns in both the second and the third period and added a reversal, gaining the bonus point with the major decision. Â Virginia would come back, winning the next three decisions. At 184, Kyle Snider prevailed with a 8-4 victory. Snider would use a pair of takedowns and a pair of escapes to get the win. The Cavaliers would take the final two matches to win 27-12.
The complete results of both duals are below. Kent State is back in action next weekend at Clarion. They will take on Morgan State and LIU on Saturday before wrestling host Clarion on Sunday.
