DeKalb, Ill.- The Kent State soccer team fell to Northern Illinois 2-1 Thursday evening in DeKalb.
The Golden Flashes (5-5-2, 2-3-1 MAC) have now dropped two straight Mid-American Conference match ups while the Huskies (7-4-3, 1-3-2 MAC) earned their first win in conference this season.
The Huskies broke the score tie in the 36th minute after the teams exchanged a few shots but failed to put one on target. Northern Illinois would hold an 1-0 going into the halftime break.
Northern Illinois doubled their lead shortly into the second half when the ball deflected out into the box after a save and Julianna Hill was there to tap it in.
The Flashes wouldn't take long to respond to the second Northern Illinois goal just two minutes later off the foot off Allison Collins. The freshman defender scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 60th minute when she played a cross in from the left side that went over the Northern Illinois goalie's head and landed in the goal untouched. Kent State kept up the offensive aggression throughout the second half but could not find the tying goal.
Kent State trailed in shots (9-10) and corner kick opportunities (4-5) but held the slight advantage in shots on goal (6-5). Ava Todd, Jules Dolinski, Katie Henahan, and Collins all tallied a shot on goal for the Flashes. In net senior Heidi Marshall played all 90 minutes and recorded 3 saves.
