10/18/2024 8:28:00 AM | Softball
For the first time, Kent State Softball and the College of Aeronautics and Engineering are partnering to hold the Fly Ball 5K at the Kent State University Airport on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 a.m.
This event welcomes runners or walkers of all ages and skill levels. Registrants will receive a uniquely-designed medal (while supplies last) and a t-shirt. Information on packet pickup will be emailed to participants at a later date.
The inspiration for the Fly Ball 5K came from assistant coach Jeff Shaffer when he served the 910th Airlift Wing in Youngstown.
"In 2018, the commander base community council worked with me to develop a runway fun run as a charity to donate funds for our airmen who had catastrophic emergencies," Shaffer said. "With that idea in mind, when I came to Kent I got in touch with the Kent State Airport to make this runway fun run happens here. The novelty of running a 5K race on a runway is very unique and not something you can do every day."
The Kent State Airport will be closed for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run or walk across the runway.
